Solutions for Improving the First-pass Retention Rate in the Wet End of the Paper Industry

As the core of wet-end chemicals, retention and drainage aids play a crucial role in the papermaking process. Selecting good retention and drainage products can effectively improve the retention of components such as fibers and fillers in the paper web, reduce losses, accelerate dewatering at the wire section, increase machine speed, boost production, reduce steam consumption, and thus lower production costs, etc.

Solution:

Papfixer® FC700 Series + Papformer® VD8000 Series + VL7000 Series/V700 Series/FR6000 Series/HS500 Series (The optimal product combination plan is determined based on paper type, speed, basis weight, customer requirements, etc. For details, please contact feymer's sales representatives or technical staff)

Case:

A large paper mill in Shandong, which produces high-grade double offset paper, had a persistently high white water concentration under the paper machine wire before using our retention and drainage aid solution. Due to the addition of a large amount of chemimechanical pulp, various methods were tried but none improved the situation. After using the ternary retention and drainage aid solution provided by our company, the white water concentration decreased significantly, and the first-pass retention rate increased from the original less than 65% to over 75% and was stably controlled at this level. During the subsequent optimization process, an anionic trash fixative was introduced, which effectively reduced the cationic charge demand of the wet end system. While not affecting the retention rate, it reduced the usage of retention and drainage aid products, thereby lowering the comprehensive production cost per ton of paper.
